Kim Engels - The Cambodian Princess
I am of Chinese descent but was raised in Cambodia. My mom was part of the royal family and my dad was a business tycoon; both also had high educations. Growing up, I was always the top of my class, poised to follow in their footsteps. Then, Pol Pot took over and the Khmer Rouge happened. For years, my family suffered and went through many horrors to survive. Luckily, a few of us that survived made it to the United States and created families of our own. I now live in Texas with my husband Richard and our son Lawrence lives nearby.
The Scariest Place I Experienced
During Pol Pot’s regime, my family was forcibly relocated to a very rural area. I was tasked to gather food and wood. This is my story of one experience I had while gathering what we need.

Beautiful Gardens
